Description

The Embera Tusipono Tour begins at Lake Chagres, located about 40 minutes from Panama City. From there, visitors board a traditional boat (dugout canoe) for a 30 to 45-minute ride along the Chagres River to the Embera Tusipono community. During the boat ride, travelers can enjoy stunning views of the jungle and local wildlife. Upon arrival, community members warmly welcome visitors and guide them through various cultural activities. Guests can experience traditional dance and music, observe the craft-making techniques of the Embera, and learn about their way of life, including their agricultural practices, use of medicinal plants, and social structure. A highlight of the tour is a visit to a nearby waterfall, where visitors can take a refreshing swim in its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. The tour offers a deep immersion into Embera culture and traditions. The entire experience lasts approximately 6 to 7 hours, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the activities and gain insight into the community's lifestyle and environment. At the end of the day, the tour concludes with a return boat ride to Lake Chagres.

Important Information

  • The walk is somewhat difficult, walking on mud, sand, slippery rocks, and through water, therefore bring shoes with good grip that you do not mind if get wet. There are no changing facilities at the waterfall; you can either swim in your clothes or wear a swimsuit under them There are proper bathrooms in the village where you can change at the end and bring an extra change of clothes for the way back to your accommodation
