Things to do in Panama

Hidden beaches, crystal clear waters, white sands and thick jungle make this destination an earthly paradise. There lives a gnabe community and animals as wonderful as the lazy pygmy and the red frog. For some, this could be the most beautiful island of our country. The assertion may seem daring, but certainly Escudo de Veraguas is a magical place for tourists. It is within the Ngabe Bugle comarca and for now it is forbidden to build on it. This is the most oceanic island around Bocas del Toro and it is just outside the tourist route, in the Gulf of the Mosquitos.

To get to Escudo de Veraguas, take a small plane from the Albrook airport and arrive at Isla Colon; from here you leave by boat. Depending on the sea conditions, the number of people (weight) and the size of the engine, from Isla Colon, takes 2 to 5 hours to reach Escudo de Veraguas. Whatever the time it takes, the wait is worth it. We could say that the island has 4 'sections'. The first is the part of the largest beach that is where the small town Ngabe is. Here there is a group of houses that are inhabited certain months of the year, when the sea allows the small boats of the fishermen to reach the island.

The second is the part of the cliffs; The sea has made the sculptor's role, creating islets of capricious shapes, with arches through which you can navigate. On the islets vegetation has been maintained, giving the impression that these islets were small islands off Escudo, when in fact they were part of the main island, until not long ago.

Geoecotur are organising trpis to the area regulary for more information or booking information click here.
